Grateful Dead “Core Four” Tops Massive Bill For Jerry Garcia Tribute Show
–Written by Kevin Madert
The good news for Grateful Dead fans just keeps coming; on May 14 a lineup brimming with talent will take over Merriweather Post Pavilion for “Dear Jerry,” a daylong event celebrating the music and life of Jerry Garcia. Headlining the affair are the Core Four – Phil Lesh, Bob Weir, Mickey Hart, and Bill Kreutzmann – joined by the likes of Widespread Panic, Yonder Mountain String Band, Railroad Earth, Bruce Hornsby, Los Lobos, Jimmy Cliff, O.A.R., Trampled By Turtles, and the Disco Biscuits, among many others.
Grammy-winning musician Don Was – known for his work with the Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, and his own group Was (Not Was) – will serve as both the music director and the leader of a backing band supporting performers throughout the show. “Jerry made us fall in love with the possibilities of music,” Was said in a statement. “Getting to play his songs with these artists is a dream realized for all of us.”
This is a dream realized for East Coasters who couldn’t make it out to Chicago’s Fare Thee Well event in July, as well as anyone who didn’t manage to grab tickets (or can’t afford the cost-prohibitive options on ticket resale sites). The concert is also slated to be filmed for future release both digitally and traditionally, which leads us to believe a live streaming option might materialize before all is said and done. We at AltFreq couldn’t be more excited, and we’ll keep you updated as more information is released.
Tickets go on sale next Friday, March 13th at noon via Ticketfly. You can also purchase tickets at both the Merriweather Post Pavilion box office or the 9:30 Club box office. More information can be found on the event’s official site.
