News: Frank Ocean’s Follow Up to Channel Orange

Frank Ocean hit the scene with the initial wave of Odd Future hype, and floored everyone with his very un-OFWGKTA mixtape, Nostalgia, Ultra. It drew me in with the orange E30 M3 on the cover, but I don’t expect that to mean anything to the majority of you. He was a soulful, deep r&b revival-esq beacon of light lost in a wave of dick jokes. He was hard to ignore, and not many people even tried.

And then of course he made his moves to take over the music industry as a whole with his debut album, Channel Orange, released in 2012. Since then, his discography has been rather dormant, but he certainly hasn’t. He went on to perform guest spots on Nas and Kanye albums, he won a Grammy, shook up the industry by addressing the latent homophobia plaguing the hip hop scene, and more or less took the industry by storm, becoming a sensation that no one could get enough of. Which of course made it rather unfortunate that he left everyone wanting more after Channel Orange.
But that’s about to come to an end, he has announced the followup to his acclaimed album, due out this July. The album is apparently coming with a new publication headed up by Ocean himself, but any more details than that are scarce at this point. But rest assured, we will be watching with baited breath like the rest of you, and will be sure to update you as soon as details become available.
