Some of you will undoubtedly know Brian Fallon as the front man of The Gaslight Anthem, which is a good reason to know the guy. But I’m willing to bet not many of you will know him for his stellar solo acoustic work, including what is still one of my favorite songs of all time, “The Blues, Mary” (which, if you haven’t heard it, is very much worth checking out) and a couple covers of the usual Gaslight Anthem-y suspects (read: Springsteen).
His latest venture into his acoustic side is a cover of Oasis’ “Don’t Look Back in Anger”, done as a live recording for CFOX. The result is another brilliant homage to the original, while maintaining the signature scruffy, New Jersey-born Americana sound that has become Fallon’s signature over the years.

First off, I want to apologize to you, dear readers, for I have made a grievous oversight earlier this year. On the list of things we care about at this blog, Brand New and trip hop are both very very high up on the list. And while we, apparently, aren’t the only ones to take this stance, Simple Mind, a Boston based producer, decided to take this fascination to the next level, and marry the two into a truly remarkable remix project.
News: Godspeed You! Black Emperor Announces New Album, Song Excerpt
–Written by Michael Hogan
Today is a very exciting day for us here at Alternate Frequency, and indeed fans of post-rock (and good music) everywhere. Earlier today, post-rock royalty Godspeed You! Black Emperor announced the follow-up to their 2012 full-length album Allelujah! Don’t Bend! Ascend!.
Their newest album, Asunder, Sweet and Other Distress will be released through Constellation Records on March 31st, so thankfully there will be no long waits for this one.
In addition, GY!BE released an 8 minute excerpt from the opening track, “Peasantry or ‘Light! Inside of Light!’”. This selection showcases the signature dissonant, droning, booming sound that has made the band icons of the post-rock scene. If this track is to set the tone for the album, Asunder, Sweet and other Distress will surely be just as colossal as their previous work.
Check out the clip and get a full track listing below. Don’t forget to pick up Asunder, Sweet and other Distress on March 31st – not to mention check back here for a full review. In the meantime, be sure to let us know what you think in the comments!
