News: Nero Provide Details On New Album, Release Epic Seven-Minute Title Track
–Written by Kevin Madert
Save the date: Nero’s sophomore album Between Two Worlds is due out August 28 via Cherrytree. The UK electronic outfit made the announcement via a short Facebook video, releasing the sweeping, seven-minute title track simultaneously. There’s a distinct noir feel, with art direction reminiscent of a Scorsese gang biopic or a Sin City spin-off. Other than this, and the text “28.08 #between2worlds” that conclude the video, we’re given little else.
It’s been nearly four years since the release of Welcome Reality, a debut full-length rife with high-concept bass music and orchestral soundscapes. The album received wide critical acclaim and commercial success, and naturally fans soon were clamoring for a follow-up. But producers Daniel Stephens & Joe Ray and singer Alana Watson weren’t in any rush to comply. They toured the world, won a Grammy, recorded this kickass performance with the BBC Philharmonic; aside from the occasional remix or soundtrack contribution, Nero remained all quiet on the production front.
In May 2014 it appeared things were ramping back up. The trio released the dark and aptly named “Satsify,” as the first single from their then-untitled sophomore album. With all the urgency of a turtle on sabbatical, the next single didn’t materialize until last month (the quintessentially Nero “The Thrill”). And now it’s here, sort of. Stay tuned to Alternate Frequency for any updates, but if the past has taught us anything, it’s time to settle in for the waiting game once again.
