ICYMI: Actor|Observer – The Longer Now

Posted by on Apr 24, 2015 in Featured, Latest, Noise | 0 comments

Don’t feel bad if you haven’t heard about this week’s In Case You Missed It, I actually missed it myself, I hate to say, and either way, that’s why this piece exists in the first place. And fret not, you haven’t missed the boat by long, this album was released only last month, on March 10th. The album in question is The Longer Now, the debut full length from Boston’s Actor|Observer, and to get straight to the point, it is nothing short of spectacular. So spectacular I’m actually a little upset with myself for missing a month and a half of listening time I could have otherwise had with the album had I been paying attention. Now, some of you may be asking from the other side of your computer, “Who is Actor|Observer?” and you could certainly be forgiven for asking such a question. They are one of the best kept secrets in the Boston post-hardcore music scene; arguably one of the best bands of the genre to ever grace Boston, period.

News: Planes Mistaken For Stars Re-Release and Summer Tour

Posted by on Apr 24, 2015 in Latest, News, Reads | 0 comments

Last month, Deathwish, Inc. along with Brann Dailor, drummer of Mastodon, released a rather ominous and vague video that provided little insight other than the fact that it was regarding legendary early post-hardcore band, Planes Mistaken for Stars. There were rumors of a new project featuring members of the band, but nobody was really certain what was going on. Until today, that is.

This morning, Deathwish, Inc. announced through a PunkNews exclusive that they would be remastering and re-releasing Mercy, the band’s acclaimed 2006 album on July 14th, PunkNews also announced that the band themselves would be embarking on a tour in July in support of the album. This tour includes a stop in DC on July 22nd at DC9, and a stop in Richmond on the 23rd at Strange Matter. Check after the jump for the video announcement from Deathwish, and full tour routing.

News: John Mayer Covers “American Pie” on Letterman

Posted by on Apr 22, 2015 in Latest, News, Reads | 0 comments

Earlier this week, John Mayer covered the iconic song, “American Pie”, for the Late Show with Dave Letterman, and quite frankly, he did a fantastic job with it. It’s been a long while since we’ve heard any new music from John Mayer, and while it is apparently on the way, we still have to wait a bit longer. So in the meantime, this will have to hold us over, but I think it’ll do the job just fine. This is a monumental song from any aspect, it is a hugely significant piece of music to Americana in general, and Mayer really does it justice.

Check out the video of the performance after the jump.

News: Motley Crue Announce Final Tour Dates

Posted by on Apr 21, 2015 in Latest, News, Reads | 0 comments

Motley Crue really don’t wanna give up, do they? Aside from this being this being probably the 12th iteration of a farewell tour, they’ve announced another, year long, leg to thier, “Guys, We’re Really Serious This Time Farewell Tour”. Of course, this time they actually are serious, everyone was so sick of their fake farewell tours that they actually signed a legally binding contract stating that they are not allowed to tour under penalty of law. I don’t know how legit that actually is, but it was a hell of a publicity stunt if nothing else.

Now we’re on to the second year of their farewell tour, and they have finally announced the last round of shows, culminating in a three night stint at the Staples Center in LA, wrapping up the long, long legacy that is Motley Crue on December 31st. All joking aside, this is definitely the end of an era, as much as Escape the Fate may try, we really will never have another Motley Crue. It really will be sad to see them go. It also merits a mention that Alice Cooper is the special guest on this tour, so even more of a reason to not miss it. So check out all their remaining tour dates after the jump, this is definitely a tour worth checking out.

Jayceeoh, B-Sides & Fawks – Jit Going Ham

The combined creation of VH1’s Master Of The Mix 2013 champion, a breezy trap up-and-comer, and a long-time AltFreq favorite, this hybrid future cut starts heavy and refuses to relent. Big synths and rhythmic clap patterns lead into a shuffling, detuned drop that hits the ears with serious weight & avoids easy labeling. Bridging the gap between progressive crowd-pleaser and hard-hitting underground gem, this three-pronged collab is prime fodder for both massive mainstages and sweaty basement clubs; expect to hear it rinsed by acts across the spectrum in the coming summer months.
