News: Buku Announces Initial Artist Lineup
–Written by Kevin Madert
And the lineup announcements roll on; Buku Music + Art Project (taking place March 13 and 14 in New Orleans) dropped their initial artist list today. As expected, it’s a healthy mix of electronica (Bassnectar, Gramatik, Odesza), hip-hop (A$AP Rocky, Run The Jewels, Yung Lean & Sad Boys) and indie galore (Passion Pit, TV On The Radio, Portugal. The Man).
We’ve certainly got a few questions – what exactly does the “live” addendum to Porter Robinson entail? And why would the festival book both him and Passion Pit, when the former has essentially become a non-self-aware clone of the latter? – but we have months to debate and discuss. Be sure to head over to the Buku website for all the latest info – or at least to scope their insane art design.

–Written by Kevin Madert
Here at AltFreq we firmly believe it’s never too early to start planning for festival season. The fine folks in charge of Summer Camp – set to celebrate its 15th iteration May 22-25 in Chillecothe, Illinois – feel much the same; they’ve just released their tier one lineup and tickets are already on sale.
For those familiar with Summer Camp many of the artists will come as no surprise, although five sets of both moe. and Umphrey’s McGee is wonderfully absurd news. Other highlights include Joe Russo’s Almost Dead, John Butler Trio, and Probcause. Check the full list below and head on over to the Summer Camp website for all the latest information.

In today’s post-rock news Swedish producer/composer Christoffer Franzén – aka Lights & Motion – has premiered “Reborn,” the first single off of this highly anticipated album Chronicle, which is set for worldwide release through Deep Elm Records on January 13th. In true Lights & Motion fashion, “Reborn” is a bright, cinematic masterpiece of post-rock.
Chronicle is the follow up to one of the most highly acclaimed post-rock albums of 2013, Save Your Heart. In the interim Franzén has also contributed to cinematic trailers (including films Lone Survivor and Homefront) and several commercials.

Weekend Wind-Down No. 12: Anjunadeep
–Words and list by Kevin Madert
For every yin there is a yang. After warming it up with the upbeat side of Above & Beyond-purveyed music, I decided our wind-down should explore the deeper side of things. Enter Anjunabeats sub-label Anjunadeep, where the releases are more subdued and the focus placed on more progressive and varied styles. I tried to represent that breadth in these ten songs; “Neon Feel” is plenty funky, “Lost In You” and “Every Night” are deep and vocal, and “Gaff’s Eulogy” stands out as the only tune on the list that’s not steady beat at all.

–Words and list by Kevin Madert
Few labels sport as much potential for warm-uppitude (copyright pending) as Anjunabeats. Founded and operated by Jono, Tony and Paavo of Above & Beyond and trading primarily in trance & progressive, the label has released hundreds of songs in its nearly 15 years of existence, so picking ten wasn’t easy. We don’t stray far from the build-release-build-release formula here, but that doesn’t mean there’s not diversity. From the stabbing riffs of “Bullet Catch” to the more traditional soaring synths on “Irufushi” and “Dreamcatcher,” there’s something for steady-beat lovers of all tastes.

The Huffington Post recently posted a feature article on Circa Survive, covering their new release, and years of substance abuse by singer, Anthony Green. The article is a great look at a different side of one of the most prolific post-hardcore bands of the past decade. I could go on, but I am better off leaving this one to HuffPost.
