Ahead of their performance in the massive Sahara Tent at Coachella on Saturday, experimental alt-rock-meets-electronica duo Ratatat premiered a new track entitled “Cream on Chrome” via Youtube. The lead single from their upcoming fifth studio album, due out sometime in 2015 via XL, is a satisfying chillfunk tune with plenty of the varied instrumentation and subdued guitars fans of the Brooklyn-based act know well. It’s a solid offering from a group which hasn’t released new music since 2010’s LP4.

Rumors of new music from Brand New have been experiencing a pretty steady ebb and flow since pretty much the day after they released Daisy in 2009. But of course, nothing has ever happened with that, Brand New sort of slinked away for a little while, as fans waited eagerly for even a whisper from the publicist about what was going to happen next. Those rumors have been in full force again for more than a year now, as Brand New has been dropping not-so-subtle hints at studio time and new material being on the way. Shortly after the release of Broken Soul Jamboree in 2008, downtempo virtuoso and glitch pioneer Dave Tipper began experiencing various health issues. The issues continued for nearly five years, limiting his production and touring output to a few EPs and a handful of dates during that time. News: Godspeed You! Black Emperor Announces New Album, Song Excerpt

Today is a very exciting day for us here at Alternate Frequency, and indeed fans of post-rock (and good music) everywhere. Earlier today, post-rock royalty Godspeed You! Black Emperor announced the follow-up to their 2012 full-length album Allelujah! Don’t Bend! Ascend!.

Their newest album, Asunder, Sweet and Other Distress will be released through Constellation Records on March 31st, so thankfully there will be no long waits for this one.

In addition, GY!BE released an 8 minute excerpt from the opening track, “Peasantry or ‘Light! Inside of Light!’”. This selection showcases the signature dissonant, droning, booming sound that has made the band icons of the post-rock scene. If this track is to set the tone for the album, Asunder, Sweet and other Distress will surely be just as colossal as their previous work.

Check out the clip and get a full track listing below. Don’t forget to pick up Asunder, Sweet and other Distress on March 31st – not to mention check back here for a full review. In the meantime, be sure to let us know what you think in the comments!

  1. Peasantry or “Light! Inside of Light!”
  2. Lambs’ Breath
  3. Asunder, Sweet
  4. Piss Crowns Are Trebled
