The Daily Frequency (8/15/14)
–Written by Kevin Madert
This is a daily post we’ll be running to keep you as up-to-date on musical goings-on as we can. We’ll be gathering news tidbits from across the music world and compiling them for you towards the end of each day. This is not meant to be an all-encompassing source for music news, but rather a collection of news items we found interesting, important, or otherwise necessary to share.
Today, a lot of things happened in the world of music. Here are some of them.
1. Nightlife-centric clothing line NGHTBRND just released their long-awaited “Owlgang” collection. The LA-based company teased their fans last week with posts giving tiny glimpses at the new line, but none of them could do justice to some of these fresh threads. Check out a few below and hit the link to grab some while they’re around. Via the official NGHTBRND site.
2. The Oxford English Dictionary released their quarterly report on word additions today. Among them? YOLO. You read that correctly. The inescapable acronym that in the past few years has become stupidity’s rallying cry is wedged between yogurt and Yonkers in the big book of words, and the human race is doomed. Thank you to Drake and the millions of moronic drunk white girls who made this all possible. Via The New York Times.
3. History lesson for the day: On this date 45 years ago, hundreds of thousands of unwashed masses were converging on a farm outside Bethel, NY for the festival to end all festivals, Woodstock. 400,000 people showed up for that one; beat that EDC Las Vegas. Via CNN.
4. Like many of us, Circa Survive frontman Anthony Green was moved and saddened by the death of beloved comedian and actor Robin Williams earlier this week. Unlike many of us, he’s a talented musician with ready access to a studio, and late yesterday he released two new tunes on his Bandcamp under the label “Prevention Songs.” Green will be donating 100% of the proceeds from their sale to the American Center for Suicide Prevention. As if it couldn’t get better, both songs are pretty damn good. Via AltPress.
